Thom Watson and Jeff Tabaco first discovered each other’s blogs in early 2003, while both men were living in the Washington, D.C., metro area. After reading and commenting for a few months, they first met in person that June, and have been together ever since.
Thom and Jeff registered as domestic partners in the State of California on Friday, February 13, 2009, and became engaged the following evening, on Valentine’s Day, in Carmel. On Saturday, September 26, 2009, surrounded by friends and family, they celebrated their lifelong commitment to each other with a commitment ceremony at the Cliff House in San Francisco. The couple was not able to marry at that time due to California’s Prop 8.
After a five-year court case, the unconstitutional Prop 8 finally was struck down in June 2013. On the first day that same-sex couples again were able to legally marry in California, Thom and Jeff went to San Francisco City Hall to apply for their wedding license. They were finally legally married on Thursday, September 26, 2013, four years to the day from their 2009 commitment ceremony, and the couple returned to the ocean-side Cliff House Terrace Room two days later, on one of the most beautiful days of the year, for a wedding reception with over 100 of their family and friends.
