We mailed out the first batch of save the date cards on Tuesday afternoon. By Wednesday mid-morning we were already hearing from some of our local friends that they’d received them. Nice job, USPS!
We got our cards from Hello!Lucky, a local stationer that does some beautiful work. We went with a retro, fun yet also sophisticated San Francisco design in our primary wedding colors of “chocolate” (brown) and “pool” (blue, tending to blue-green), plus some “lucky red” accents, more or less the color scheme we’re using here on the site, along with a sage-y apple-y green. The typefaces used on the back of the save the date cards are Bernhard Modern and Engravers Gothic.
For the envelopes, which we printed ourselves, I used the same typefaces and repeated some elements of the card design — the Golden Gate Bridge under our return address, and a cable car and track under the addressee’s name and address. For stamps, we used the delightful new king and queen “love” design just released by the USPS, based on old French playing cards but working extremely well with our retro look and even fortuitously but completely coincidentally incorporating our colors.
